My Story
My name is Robert, and I love games!
Risk, Chess, Uno, Checkers, Monopoly, Stratego, Sequence, 5 Second Game, Cards Against Humanity, and Catan are a few of my favorite games. I have also always enjoyed learning new things such as funny jokes, and interesting facts. I am a competitive person who enjoys challenging conversations because I want to learn something new, and I like to teach others new things too. Fun fact about Texas, our state motto is “Friendship.”
I met my wife in 2015, and in 2018 we were married with 46 close friends and family members supporting us in Las Vegas. Back then, I was a banker, and she was a store manager for a large retailer. In 2020, we both lost our jobs due to reactions our companies made in regards to the big news of the time. I decided to leave 15 years in banking, and partnered with a former client in oil and gas exploration. By the end of 2022 the company was broke. I then got a job waiting tables overnight in Houston, and during the long hours of alone time between me getting off work, and my wife waking up…I came up with this game.
The purpose of this game is to bring people together with an experience where, with chance and strategy, anyone can win. I want people to be able to learn new things about the world around them, and I want to share knowledge that I have gained, which has helped shape my view of the world.
Pursue Overview
The Game
I love games and knowledge, and I wanted to create something fun that could bring people together post the craziness of 2020. I really connected well with new friends by playing chess with them and talking about the news we all saw at one of the few bar/restaurants still open. We questioned the world while having fun....we researched things, we learned new facts, and we battled for a winner on the games we played.
I love trivia and strategy. I think a healthy mind seeks knowledge, and that the pursuit of wisdom should be an unending quest. I think the greatest games embody this, and include variables for which a player cannot always account.
Additionally, I think the best games are easy to learn, but hard to master. "Pursue" is designed and explained in the rules book so that it can be opened, understood, setup, and started in about 15 minutes. Anyone aged 13 and older should be able to start having fun quickly the first time they play, and then want to play it again and again.
In my game "Pursue", I have created a hexagonal board made up of 91 hexagons. I combined this with three different colored dice (1 for the number of cards to draw to start a round, 1 for the bonus color for the round, and 1 for the number of turns in the round), and added two decks of 4 color suited cards that offer bonus game movements and provide trivia conjointly with QR codes to cite sources. The tokens on the board fall into 2 categories: player tokens and money tokens. The 7 player tokens, which remain on the board at all times, improve in capabilities and movements, while the money tokens are utilized to stymie one's opponent.
While the mechanics of the game remain the same, the library of knowledge in trivia will grow. The first two decks of cards cover the following topics: 1. US Government Programs, 2. Conspiracies, 3. Read, Seen, or Heard, 4. Jesus, 5. Big Pharma, 6. Experiments, 7. Money, and 8. Charities. As the game grows, I plan to release more decks of cards with new topics...one of which is already completed!
I want to grow this game as a company! Let’s share the joy of a fun new game, and deliver information and knowledge to people to share with their friends while connected to them in person...in real life...not on a social media platform, or a cold computer screen.
I welcome your questions, and I hope you will join me on this journey!
